Do you use airbnb when you travel? What are the coolest features that you remember from rental properties?
For me, it’s always nice when I find a little guide to visit the area like a local.
So as soon as we put our flat in Warsaw on airbnb, I was thinking about graphic brochure design for our place.
And this is how Moose Tony was born:)
First he appeared as a wall art in our apartment (How to design a wall mural with markers). Further this idea extended into a graphic brochure design. where Tony is a local guide for our guests.
And that’s not the end of my ideas, but I will keep it a secret for the moment 😉
So for now, please enjoy ‘Local Guide by Moose Tony’.
Why did I choose moose to be the local guide?
When you go outside the apartment, the closest attraction is Bemowo Forest. It’s not a man made forest, but a real deal, which one could call the far suburbs of Kampinoski National Park. The latter a giant, wild forest with the oldest tree being 400 years old!!!
Hence it’s not very uncommon to meet a wild animal like moose on your walk. It was one of those lovely encounters with nature that inspired me to create an illustrated moose character. I named him Tony to correspond with the name of the nearby street ‘Anthony Kocjana’.
Let's start with the cover!
As half of the graphic brochure is in English and the other half in Polish, there are also two covers. One the back and one on the front.
The main features of the cover is the title, which underlines it’s a LOCAL guide. The illustration with Tony, shows a bit of trees and a bicycle, which builds the first impression about the nature character of the area.
The cover corresponds with the wall art, which indicates, that the graphic brochure design was made especially for this particular apartment.
A brief introduction
An introduction page is a good place to tell a small story and greet your guests. This way, there is bigger chance to increase their good impression about the place….unless it’s a some rental disaster happens and even Moose Tony won’t be able fix it ha ha
Colour palette for the graphic brochure design is simple and corresponds to the mural. The only colour I am using is green to underline the nature character of the surroundings.
Consistent design through the pages
On the following pages guests will find ideas for closer and further expeditions around the apartment plus recommendations where to eat. What else do you need for a relaxing weekend without having to move around too much?
From my experience, I like to hear from the locals what’s good nearby. When I want to visit the tourist places, it’s easy the find the information on internet or in published travel guides. Hence my graphic brochure design does not include typical tourist attractions.
How to finish the brochure?
Fun facts are always a good addition and a reward for those who last till the end of the graphic brochure design.
It’s also good to add some practical information. This is usually where people look for names, addresses, in case they have questions or want to connect.
