Quick walk with my dog brought a cute surprise. It was a gloomy November morning in Sluseholmen (south of Copenhagen) and here she was … a seal, resting on a pier in the middle of the city. She made my day ๐
A bit about "Sluzy" the Sluseholmen Seal
The next day I started to wonder if she was lost and considered calling animal services. Thanks to neighbors I quickly learned that she was a local seal named Sluzy. Apparently she comes here during winter and stays for a few months. I moved to this area not so long ago, so I didn’t know about Sluzy.
A little about Sluseholmen
Sluseholmen was inspired by Amsterdam. It’s basically a city with a lot of canals. As much as the idea is awesome, Sluseholmen hugely lacks the colour green. Especially in winter it can be dark and gloomy here.ย
Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great place, where you can swim or kayak only few steps away from your apartment. However it looks like someone forgot to plant more trees ๐ Hopefully it will all come with time, as it’s still a very young neighborhood.
Helping me find inspiration
Since I met Sluzy a bunch of times, I warmed up to Sluseholmen and started to appreciate it’s character. Living next to a wild seal is a rare treat and I guess it helped me to open my eyes to other qualities of my new surroundings.
This is when I started to take more photos and sketch Sluseholmen. Before I realized I started a collection ofย Sluzy postcards and illustrations:)
A little thanks to the locals and especially Ricco's!
Thank you everyone, who appreciated Sluzy and supported my project. It gave me a bucket of positive energy and fueled my creativity to the moon and back! Also super special thanks to Casper from Ricco’s for allowing me a bit of space for my Sluzy’s collection ๐
