So Vinjerac again … This little village stole our hearts and pumped my creativity spirits one more time (read my post from last summer Vinjerac in ink and watercolours). Here are some creative highlights from my recent holiday. Enjoy!

While last summer, I was painting comfortably on my balcony, this year I exchanged the table for the rocks and benches. It was high time to use the watercolour sketchbook, which I got from my Warsaw friends!

A special art request from an unexpected direction

Last year I secretly painted my holiday neighbour and her friend catching the beautiful morning sun, while drinking tea. Later I gave her that small painting and didn’t expect to hear about it again.Yet this summer, a neighbour’s friend asked me for the same picture! Apparently she had a photo of my last year and often looked at it coming back to the memory of that sweet morning ritual. I couldn’t say no to that!This story means so much to me, as it shows what I intend with my art works. It’s the small moments that move me and the memories that I want to freeze so you can come back to them at any time. I do it for myself and I am glad I can do it for others.

From time to time I post a Croatian sketch in the facebook group for Vinjerac. To my surprise I was contacted by someone who liked my sketch so much that she asked her friend to recreate it!!! As she explained that she couldn’t come to Vinjerac this year due to personal problems and the fake sketch was her connection to Croatia, I felt touched. On top of that she sent her sister to purchase a few artworks from me. Hopefully we can meet in person next summer!

Building a new art community from a bench

Two weeks before coming to Croatia, I moved with my family to The Netherlands. During months of preparation to leave our old place in Copenhagen, I felt like I was losing a stable ground, so I needed to create a life vest for myself. This is when I refocused my creative energy on something I know and love and created a series of artwork from Vinjerac. So after we unpacked in The Netherlands at the speed of light, I took the box of postcards, my 3 kids (one very furry;) and drove to Croatia.As I am not in Copenhagen any more and not quite yet in The Hague, starting this collection helped me to build a new community in Vinjerac – a place where I plan to retire one day.

Me and my younger son spent a few evenings selling my art from the bench in the center of Vinjerac. It’s a small village and in spite of thousands of holiday fans, it doesn’t have their own merchandise. That is probably why my art received such a warm welcome!

Just before leaving Vinjerac, together with my artsy neighbour Petra, we started a facebook group for creative people of Vinjerac. Petra makes art from whatever she finds in the sea and our other neighbour Luca weaves ropes. There are already 50 people in our fb group and I am excited to see what we can do together next summer!
